I Can’t Wait to Press Cider!
There is nothing that says New England autumn more than freshly pressed apple cider. The CitySprouts team just kicked off our annual cider pressing season and we are excited to say the least. These are really fun events where we introduce children and teachers to the school garden by setting up an apple press in the garden and teaching classes of kids how to make cider. We go to all of our gardens in Cambridge and Boston over a four-week period giving the gift of cider to over 6,000 students.
- I have never made apple cider from scratch before! Being from Upstate New York I definitely grew up drinking freshly pressed apple cider, but never straight from a hand press I cranked. So I am looking forward to learning and sampling right alongside the many students through out Cambridge and Boston.
- I have been working with so many great volunteers this year, plus communicating with so many current and perspective volunteers for Cider Pressing. And now I can meet you! I am really looking forward to putting faces to names for so many of our great volunteers. Cider Pressing is such a huge undertaking that we couldn’t do without the help of so many parents and community members.
It is not too late to sign up to volunteer either. Our greatest need at the moment is more help in our Boston partner schools. But no matter what school or neighborhood you are interested in, email me to touch base, we are bound to make something work. Generally, we will be pressing cider school days from October 14th to November 10th with a morning and afternoon shift.
I look forward to meeting you all in the gardens,
