CitySprouts’ tuition-free summer program is held at the four Upper Schools in Cambridge and one school in Boston. In this month long internship youth take care of their school garden, go on field trips, cook their own lunch, explore the garden ecosystem, and create projects to address social justice issues in the food system and their community. Concentrating their time at the summer sites, the Garden Coordinators need your help as they are unable to visit all their gardens as often.
We need your help to keep the gardens watered and tended during the long hot summer. You would be assigned a garden that is near your home or work to make it convenient for you. We would introduce you to the garden space and set you up for success (how to water, what to weed, etc.). Being able to water 1-2 times a week is needed for the duration of the summer. Watering typically takes 1 hour to get out the hoses and thoroughly soak the plants. We understand you may have vacation plans this summer, so just let us know and we will make a point to water.
This opportunity would involve volunteering on your own, but we still want this to be fun. We will plan a couple picnics in the gardens during the summer so that the Watering Team can meet.
Our summer program hosts multiple Garden Expos for the interns to demonstrate what they have learned. We would love for you to come to at least one so that you can see how vital your help is!
