MA FoodCorps Initiative

In September 2011, CitySprouts  joins The Food Project in a new initiative to deliver farm-to-school and school gardening projects in Boston, Lynn, and Gloucester. The Massachusetts FoodCorps Initiative- comprising The Food Project, CitySprouts and Boston Public Schools—will provide children and families in eastern Massachusetts communities greater access to local food, beginning this September.

This effort is made possible by FoodCorps, a new AmeriCorps program that places service members for one year in high-need communities to improve children’s education about and access to healthy, locally grown food. FoodCorps service members will work in three main areas: in public schools, after school programming and in the school cafeteria.

“CitySprouts is a natural partner for The Food Project as we embark on this new school-based initiative,” said Margaret Williams, Executive Director of The Food Project. “ We’re eager to work with them and Boston Public Schools in this exciting effort to increase children’s access to fresh and local food.”
