Environmental & Community Impact Award

We are thrilled to honor teachers Leroy attles and janet forte with the 2025 CitySprouts Environmental and Community Impact Award!

Leroy Attles has been a Science Specialist at the Haynes Early Education Center for the last 8 years, but has been an educator for the last 15 years! He has been an active Program Committee Member at CitySprouts for the past 5 years, bringing a commitment to nurturing a passion for science and the natural world, not only through his own classroom but also by supporting CitySprouts' work in maintaining school-based learning gardens. We are deeply grateful for Leroy’s dedication and leadership in furthering our shared vision to inspire a generation to grow a greener future.

Janet Forte has been a Special Start educator at the Peabody School for several decades. Janet started working with CitySprouts’ founder Jane Hirschi when CitySprouts was founded in 2001. CitySprouts owes a lot to Janet: it was in her class that Jane Hirschi began gardening with children, and Jane credits Janet in inspiring her and pushing her to continue her efforts. We are incredibly grateful for Janet, whose contributions have been instrumental to our Cambridge programming, our curriculum development, and in inspiring a generation of CitySprouters.
