Elementary Garden Science Programming

Our Model

CitySprouts hosts full-time garden educators (GEs) who lead classes one or two days a week at the 24 schools where we serve. The GEs facilitate sessions for pre-kindergarten through 5th students using our Garden Science curriculum, which aligns with Massachusetts Science, Technology, and Engineering Standards. Educators collaborate with teachers to extend and deepen students’ science knowledge and skills as well as their comfort in the natural world.

We strive to make CitySprouts lessons accessible for students of all abilities and backgrounds, to incorporate social-emotional learning and healthy foods, and to ensure that learning is hands-on and fosters curiosity and wonder. Programming outcomes are regularly captured by Sun Associates, an external evaluator.

The CitySprouts program is supported in part through service agreements in Cambridge Public Schools and Boston Public Schools. The CitySprouts Program works only in these school districts.
