CitySprouts youth sort over 5,000 pounds of food at Greater Boston Food Bank

Yesterday the CitySprout middle-school?interns from the Morse and Rindge Avenue Upper Schools took a trip to the Greater Boston Food Bank in Dorchester to help the pantry sort food for distribution to families throughout the Greater Boston area. The Morse and RAUC interns join their fellow interns from the King Open and Vassal Lane Upper Schools, who volunteered at the pantry on July 8. When you add?the work of both groups together, CitySprouts interns sorted?5,740 pounds of food, making?4,783 meals possible?for people in need throughout eastern Massachusetts. Way to go, CitySprouts interns! Service learning is one of the cornerstones of the CitySprouts Summer Youth Program. By helping out at organizations?like the Greater Boston Food Bank and the Gaining Ground Farm in Concord, our middle-school interns learn the importance of making the food system work for the people in their communities. These trips inspire our youth to take action and devise original plans for solving problems in their own neighborhoods.
