Volunteering in the Garden and Office
Hi Everyone!
My name is Marilyn Petrowski and I am the new Development Intern for this Fall at CitySprouts!
As a graduate of Boston College, and resident of South Boston, the education of Boston's future holds a special place in my heart. I am so excited to be involved in an organization that places an emphasis both on experiential learning as well as agriculture and the environment. I am currently taking graduate courses at Tufts University focusing on agriculture andnutrition. My first experience with CitySprouts was last week during our first volunteer day of the Fall season.
The 10 volunteers and the members of the CitySprouts team met at Morse School in Cambridge where the group then split up between Morse and the Amigos School down the road. The generous people who dedicated their time to helping out in our school gardens ranged from board members, corporate sponsors, repeat volunteers and first timers! During the three hours of volunteering we weeded the grounds, planted new items, organized garden sheds, and overall cleaned up the gardens. Both gardens looked phenomenal once we were done, making for an even better environment for students to engage in their curriculum.
As we ended our day of volunteering in the gardens we all shared one word that came to mind upon completion of the day: answers ranged from hungry and sweaty, to connected, satisfied, and grateful.
This Fall, I will be helping the CitySprouts team get ready for our Spring fundraiser, Dig It! 2018. I will be working with local businesses in Cambridge and Boston to build a robust silent auction to support the fundraising efforts. Additionally, I will be assisting in implementing a multimedia content plan for CitySprouts. So be sure to look out for us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and in your email!
