Back to the School Garden
New Boston Schools = New Gardens!
Fall has arrived and along with some much needed rain, CitySprouts Garden Educators have begun teaching in 24 Boston and Cambridge Public Schools. Our gardens are thriving, and we are especially excited that K0-5th grade students at the PA Shaw, Samuel Mason and Rafael Hernandez Schools are discovering and learning in new garden classrooms!
In addition to expanding CitySprouts programming by 25% in Boston Public Schools, our 3 new school partnerships are an amazing opportunity to bring our hands-on, garden-based Early Start in Science curriculum to more students, to add more green spaces to the community, and to contribute to the district's investment in outdoor learning.
Our Young Leaders afterschool program is also getting underway, with opportunities to help our urban farm partners with the fall harvest! We are looking forward to sharing more photos and updates soon.
Read more below and on our blog, and please stay in touch.
With gratitude,
The CitySprouts team
Young Leaders Summer Program
CitySprouts Young Leaders had a blast in the summer program! Over 5 weeks and at 4 sites they played, learned, and worked in the gardens together. Highlights included field trips around our community, earning a stipend for working in the gardens, and making s’mores in solar ovens and pesto from microgreens. See photos and more details on the CitySprouts blog!
Thank You, Volunteers
Thank you to our volunteers for helping us build and care for our new gardens, and to Whole Kids Foundation and Life Science Cares for supporting them!
Shout out to the Stag Industrial, BioNTech, and TIAA teams for showing up despite the heat to shovel soil, build beds and plant seeds that students can harvest this fall.
